Chanting “Peace in Mindanao, Now Na!”, more than a thousand children from around 13 schools along the Maria Lobregat highway between Curuan district and Tungawan municipality in Zamboanga gave a stirring welcome to the runners participating in the second day of the Run for Peace and Solidarity for Mindanao as they passed their schools.
Hundreds of Zamboanguenos including Muslim and Christian children enthusiastically signed their names to the One Million Voices (OMV) campaign calling on all armed groups in the country to still their guns and work for a peaceful negotiated settlement to their conflict.
More than 200 runners, bikers, activists, peace advocates and motorcycle enthusiasts made a rousing send off for more than two dozen runners from the Visayas in the Peace and Solidarity Run for Mindanao in Zamboanga City early today that aims to generate citizen support for a peaceful and negotiated settlement of the conflict in Mindanao.
