Civil society groups play an important role in conflict prevention and peace management. This was demonstrated by the establishment of the Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (GPPAC), a global civil society led network which seeks to build an international consensus on peacebuilding and the prevention of violent conflict.

Allow the people to breathe and live with peace.
Since August 2008, more than 700,000 persons, mostly children and women have been displaced from their homes and robbed of the equal opportunity to live humanely and with dignity, able to productively take part in their own communities.
They are not members of any armed groups. They are plain civilians who have been at the receiving end of attacks from both rebel groups and the military troops. They are also branded as reserve enemy force of government troops.

We, the Mindanao Peaceweavers- a convergence of seven peace networks in Mindanao- challenges the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) to recommit to previous ceasefire agreements and immediately reactivate the ceasefire mechanisms.

Davao City – “We hope it won’t take a little while more for the Suspension of Military Operations (SOMO) of the government and the Suspension of Military Action (SOMA) of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front to become real,” stated Gus Miclat, Executive Director of the Initiatives for International Dialogue (IID), on reports that armed clashes had recurred in Central Mindanao recently despite the declaration of SOMO.
