Zamboanguenos support One Million Voices campaign

Hundreds of Zamboanguenos including Muslim and Christian children enthusiastically signed their names to the One Million Voices (OMV) campaign calling on all armed groups in the country to still their guns and work for a peaceful negotiated settlement to their conflict.

The campaign, which was “soft-launched” last week in Dumaguete City in the run-up to the Peace and Solidarity Run for Mindanao aims to mobilize citizen’s participation in the peace process. The campaign
will be formally launched on September 21, which is the UN International Day of Peace. It is also the 39th anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law in the Philippines. The campaign will officially end in December 10, 2011, International Human Rights Day.

The campaign will feature a multi-media platform including petition signing, “likes”on Facebook, tweets, photos, essays, songs, poems or other expressions.

A major part of the Peace Run that kicked off today in Zamboanga was the collection of signatures along the run’s route to the OMV campaign.

The campaign is spearheaded by the Initiatives for International Dialogue, the lead secretariat of the Mindanao Peaceweavers (MPW).
