RELIGIOUS and cultural ties between the equally pluralistic peoples of  West Papua and Mindanao has become increasingly closer and more collaborative with the recent visit of four convenors and members of the Inter-Religious Solidarity Movement for Peace (IRSMP) to the Indonesian province.

The IRSMP officers, namely, Fr. Angel Calvo, Atty. Paulino  Ersando, Hj. Abdurahim Kenoh and Jaafar Kimpa, were invited by the Institute for Interfaith Dialogue  of Indonesia (INTERFIDEI) and Conslutative Forum of Papuan Religious Leaders (or, Forum Kunsultasi Para Pamimpin Agama – FKPPA).   It was a reciprocal visit to the visit by Muslim and Christian religious leaders of West Papua (Irian Jaya) to Zamboanga and Davao cities last November 2007, to witness the Mindanao Week of Peace celebration that year.  The IRSMP delegation visited the Indon capital city Jakarta and the cities of Manokwari and Jayapura in West Papua from February 1 to 8.
